El paraíso de Janes y Jambres en Historia Monachorum in Aegypto: Origen y variantes de una sincrética leyenda mediterránea

Abstract

El presente artículo es una revisión diacrónica de la leyenda de Janes y Jambres a lo largo de sus fuentes, con la intención de contextualizarla en el amplio mundo mediterráneo que discurre desde la recepción del Antiguo Testamento hasta las menciones a los magos egipcios datadas en obras de los siglos IV-V de nuestra era. Un tópico presente en todas ellas es la creación de un paraíso a copia del bíblico de Adán y Eva, según transmite el anónimo Historia Monachorum in Aegypto, lo cual centrará el análisis de las siguientes páginas.

The main purpose of the following paper is to deal with the legend of Jannes and Jambres from the diachronic point of view on the early fonts at our disposal, in order to contextualize the history in the wide-open Mediterranean world (since the reception of the Old Testament, to the works of IV-V centuries of our era). In this context, it might be highlighted that a recurrent topic in almost all texts is the creation of a Paradise like the biblical Adam and Eve’s one, as it can be sketched from the Historia Monachorum in Aegypto. This motive will be the central point of the following pages.
