This pap er analyses the educommunication, more specifically education towards the media in school environments in three iberoamerican countries: Brazil, Portugal and Spain , all supervised by universities . The aim is to identify how the educa tion towards the media can prepare citizens to become more aware of the reality in which they live and how this change can improve society. The used methodology, qualitative meta - analysis, allows us to compare the results of the studies in three countries schools. In all case studies, it sought to understand how the participation in the production of a newspaper (paper or digital), here used as a tool for media education, could make students more aware of the problems that affect the society in which they l ive and how they can become more active in the conception of a collective future. The findings in the three case studies show that the participation in a school newspaper is a form of active citizenship, and that is also recognised by the community in whic h they live. This recognition develops the self - esteem of the participants and invigorates a critical spirit essential to the proper functioning of societies.es_ES
