Moradas para el más allá. Élites rurales y fundaciones funerarias en época moderna: Lucena, siglos XVI al XVIII

Abstract

Este trabajo analiza una de las vías más recurrentes de promoción de arquitectura sacra por parte de las élites rurales en la Andalucía moderna: las capillas funerarias en templos conventuales y parroquiales. Tomando como escenario la ciudad de Lucena, capital del estado de Comares, se aborda la proyección de tales fundaciones desde sus múltiples aristas: la espiritual, la artística y simbólica, y la socioeconómica, que recibe un más amplio tratamiento al conectar el acceso a ellas y su proliferación con los procesos de venalidad y mercantilización de sepulturas.

This paper analyses one of the most recurrent ways of sacred architecture promotion by rural elites in early modern Andalusia: the funerary chapels in conventual and parochial temples. Taking as a stage the city of Lucena, capital of the state of Comares, the projection of such foundations is adressed from their multiple edges: the spiritual, the artistic and symbolic, and the socioeconomic, which receives a broader treatment by connecting the access to them and their proliferation with the processes of venality and merchandising of graves.
