El acceso norte al Teatro Romano de Córdoba: secuencia estratigráfica y estudio de materiales

Abstract

This article gives a general view on the stratigraphical sequence and pottery of the excavation in the "Roman Patio" of the "Museo Arqueológico Provincial" (Córdoba), carried out in May, 1994. Thanks to this excavation, the existence of a Roman theatre in the area was stated and there could be dated its North access (a square), the foundations of the Summa Cavea, and the water supply systems, which date back to the Augustean period. In addition, there could also be defined and dated a complete sequence, which spans the period from the second half of the third century a.d. (in which there were several reforms) to the sixth century a. d. (in which it was abandoned and turned into a cemetery).

El siguiente artículo ofrece una visión general de la secuencia estratigráfica y de los materiales cerámicos de la excavación en el Patio Romano del Museo Arqueológico Provincial que se produjo en el mes de Mayo de 1994'. En esta excavación se pudo constatar la existencia de un teatro romano en la zona y se logró fechar su plaza de acceso norte, la cimentación de la svmma cavea y los sistemas hidráulicos de este complejo, que datan de época augustea. Además, también se consiguió definir y datar una completa secuencia que abarca desde ciertas reformas de la segunda mitad del s. III d.C. hasta el abandono definitivo del edificio y su conversión en zona cementerial en el s. VI d.C.
