The world of interment of Roman Malaca, city of Phoenician-Punic origin, knows some initial centuries of strong cultural hybridism, detectable without difficulty the archaeological register, wherein from the first moment cremation and inhumation coexist. In a progressive way, its topography, types of tombs, rituals, personal objects, and commemorative ceremonies, become more and more normative and similar to those which bring out other Hispanic-Baetic urban settlements, until the final encroachment within the city walls by interments of the late imperial period. In recent years, urban archaeology has been contributed an enormous amount of information; however, its usefulness is so limited that for the moment only a superficial approach is possible, in which, in spite of everything, some interesting particularities such as coexistence of suburbia of tombs and “harmful” activities (occasionally also by suburban exploitations), the surprising absence of funeral enclosures or mortuary monuments, the scarcity of epigraphy or the difficulty to define the funeral landscape with minimal reliability and precision, can be observed.en
