Ḫirbet al-Mafǧar y el enigma del término al-walīd

Abstract

En este artículo estudiamos un motivo con el que pretendemos recalcar que el califa omeya al-Walīd I aparece como un soberano interesado en reelaborar las tradiciones principescas sasánida y bizantina, actuando al propio tiempo como promotor de un lenguaje artístico propio en el seno del nuevo poder árabe islámico.

Our aim in this article is to study a motif to emphasize the idea that the Umayyad caliph al-Walīd appears like a ruler, who is interested in devising both the Sassanid and the Byzantine court traditions. At the same time, the monarch acts like a promoter of a specific artistic language in the heart of the new Islamic power.
