La frontera de Granada. Perspectivas y planteamientos

Abstract

Este artículo consiste en un estudio analítico de nuestro actual estado de conocimientos acerca de la frontera de Granada –donde no se resta ni un gramo de importancia al rico caudal de información que hemos ido acumulando–, pero en el que se plantea el problema de cómo estamos manejando y entendiendo ese conjunto de noticias. En gran medida, se pone el acento en la circunstancia de que se ha continuado empleando la interpretación tradicional hasta más allá de lo que sería aconsejable, una explicación que fue válida y elegante cuando vio la luz décadas atrás, pero que no hay que olvidar que fue una primera lectura y que, gracias precisamente a la gran cantidad de información que se ha ido reuniendo, salta a ojos vista que debe revisarse en profundidad. La idea matriz propuesta es que, quizás, para algunos investigadores gustaría que la realidad de la frontera granadina hubiera sido otra, pero que hay que aceptar que esa linde no unía sino que separaba a dos sociedades distintas y enfrentadas y que, por consiguiente, el lenguaje más común era la más pura violencia, sus manifestaciones y derivaciones.

This article is an analysis of our current state of knowledge about the Granadan frontier –where not one piece of information is excluded from all that we have collected–, but in which the problem of how we are interpreting this information is discussed. For the most part, the emphasis is put on the fact that the classic interpretation have been taken too far, a valid and elegant interpretation when it appeared several decades ago, but which was a fi rst reading and that, thanks to the large amount of new information that have been gathered, should be revised in depth. The key idea proposed here is, perhaps, some scholars would have liked the reality of Granadan frontier to be different, but we must accept that this strip of land did not join but, in fact, separated two distinct and violently opposed societies and that, therefore, the most common behaviour was that of violence, its expressions and its derivations.
