Calas de la demonología en el monacato egipcio

Abstract

La demonología cristiana ha sido ampliamente estudiada en el periodo conocido como cristianismo primitivo entre los siglos I-III d. C. Es un momento en el que se ponen las bases de la demonología y los autores del momento discuten sobre el origen del diablo y de los demonios. Sin embargo, la demonología que empieza a aparecer a partir del siglo IV d. C. y cuyo aspecto más importante es el conflicto del monje con el diablo, queda relegada a una parte más de la vida ascética. Con este artículo pretendemos ahondar en la presencia del diablo en los textos literarios del monacato egipcio y seguir su evolución desde los testimonios del cristianismo primitivo.

Christian demonology has been widely studied in the period known as primitive Christianity between the centuries I-III A.C. It is a time when the demonology foundations are set up and the authors of the time discuss about the devil and demon´s origin. However, the demonology that begins to appear from the 4th century A.C. and whose most important aspect is the conflict between the devil and the monk, is relegated to another part of the ascetic life. With this paper we deep into the devil presence in literary texts of Egyptian monasticism and follow its evolution from the early Christianity testimonies.
