De diosas gaditanas. A propósito de un nuevo conjunto de terracotas procedente de la necrópolis de Gades

Abstract

El hallazgo de un nuevo conjunto de terracotas figurativas (“pebeteros en forma de cabeza femenina” y figuras femeninas con niño) en la necrópolis de Cádiz nos da pie para volver, una vez más, sobre el origen de las iconografías representadas, las vías de penetración de los modelos y la función de estos objetos en el contexto funerario en el que se insertan los hallazgos. Y, finalmente, nos permite reflexionar sobre la/s divinidad/es representada/s y apostar por el desarrollo de un ritual funerario propio muy desarrollado en la metrópolis extremo-occidental en la que se rendiría culto a una divinidad femenina de rasgos ctónicos y maternales.

The find of a new complex of figurative terra-cotta thymiateria (shaped like women’s heads and female figure with a child) in Cadiz necropolis leads us to go back, once again, towards the origin of represented iconography, the models routes of entrance and the objects functionality within the funerary context of these findings. Finally, it allows us to think about the divinity or divinities represented and to back the development of an specific funerary ritual well developed in the western metropolis, where it could be adored a female divinity with ctonic and motherly characteristics.
