Los referentes culturales en las películas de Shrek: un estudio de caso sobre las versiones subtituladas y dobladas del inglés al árabe

Abstract

Esta investigación intentará plantear un par de preguntas relacionadas con las estrategias utilizadas en la subtitulación y el doblaje de los referentes culturales del inglés al árabe de la saga de películas de Shrek: Shrek 2, Shrek 3 y Shrek 4., repasaremos las estrategias de la traducción de referentes culturales tal y como fueron propuestas por (Pederson, 2005), así como los factores que podrían afectar a las decisiones del traductor. Asimismo, identificaremos si existen pautas o patrones en la subtitulación y/o el doblaje para este trasvase intercultural. Por otro lado, en el marco de este estudio, quisiéramos probar la hipótesis de si el doblaje es un proceso puramente de domesticación, mientras que la subtitulación es un proceso de extranjerización; un concepto desarrollado por (Venuti, 1995). A este respecto, analizaremos los ejemplos de referentes culturales extraídos de las películas de Shrek y discutiremos al final los resultados alcanzados.

This research will attempt to raise a couple of questions related to the strategies used in the subtitling and dubbing of cultural references from English to Arabic in the Shrek movie series: Shrek 2, Shrek 3 and Shrek 4. We will review the strategies of the translation of cultural references as proposed by (Pederson, 2005), as well as the factors that could affect the translator's decisions. Likewise, we will identify if there are any patterns in the subtitling and / or the dubbing of this intercultural transfer. On the other hand, within the framework of this study, we would like to test the hypothesis of whether dubbing is a purely domestication process, while subtitling is a foreignization process; a concept developed by (Venuti, 1995). In this regard, we will analyze the examples of cultural references taken from Shrek's films and discuss the results at the end.
