La iglesia parroquial de la Natividad de Nuestra Señora de Benilloba (Alicante)

Abstract

Este artículo explica la historia de la iglesia de la Natividad de Nuestra Señora de Benilloba (Alicante), desde sus inicios, cuando la villa estaba poblada por moriscos y la primera parroquia se levantó sobre el solar de la antigua mezquita, hasta la actualidad. Para ello se aporta información detallada acerca de la historia de la baronía de Benilloba, la importancia del patronazgo de San Joaquín y las diferentes fases constructivas y decorativas del templo.

This article explains the history of the church of the Nativity of Our Lady in Benilloba (Alicante), from the beginning, when the town was inhabited by Moorish and the first parish was built over the site that used to be occupied by the ancient mosque, until now. For this purpose, it’s provided detailed information concerning the history of the Barony of Benilloba, the importance of the patronage of Saint Joachim and the different phases of construction and decoration of the temple.
