Tipología del rey en los relatos míticos de la Grecia antigua

Abstract

Los relatos míticos de la Grecia antigua dan numerosos ejemplos de las terribles fuerzas sobrenaturales que desencadenaba la divinidad ante los crímenes del soberano. El rey, como vástago de Zeus y elegido por él mismo, debía de rendirle cuentas, de modo que recibía la contestación positiva de la naturaleza cuando se comportaba rectamente, mientras que, si caía en la injusticia o en la arrogancia, la ira divina se lanzaba contra él y toda su comunidad. Tales relatos tenían un carácter aleccionador y trataban tanto de mantener el orden ancestral como de establecer modos de purificación y expiación.

He king, as Zeus' offspring, chosen by him, must render that god an account of his own actions, so that he would receive a positive answer from nature when he behaved rightly, while the divine wrath, if he was unjust or arrogant, was hurled against him and his community. Such tales had an exemplary purpose and they attempted both to help keep the ancestral order and to establish the various ways of purification and expiation.
