La ciudad de Córdoba en el diario inédito de Giovan Battista Gornia, cronista de Cosme III de' Medici

Abstract

El futuro monarca florentino, Cosme III de' Medici, hijo del gran duque Fernando II y de Vittoria della Rovere, inicia en septiembre del año 1668, acompañado por una comitiva de alrededor de treinta personas, un viaje por varios países europeos, entre ellos España, con objeto de completar su formación y conocer de cerca las políticas y costumbres de estos países. En el presente artículo se analiza la visita que la comitiva florentina realiza a Córdoba, ciudad a la que llegan el sábado, 8 de diciembre de 1668, y de la que parten con destino a Granada el viernes, 14 de diciembre, a través del diario inédito del médico, Giovan Battista Gornia, que forma parte del séquito personal del heredero toscano y que elabora una crónica del viaje en la que se recogen las impresiones, los lugares que visitaron y los aspectos más interesantes de la estancia en la ciudad.

The future Florentine monarch, Cosme III of Medici, son of the great duke Ferdinand ll and of Vittoria della Rovere, starts a journey to various European countries, among them Spain, in September 1668, accompanied by a court of some thirty people. The purpose of this travelling is to improve his education and to know more thoroughly the policies and customs of those countries. In this article I discuss the visit that the Florence court paid to Cordova, where they arrive on Saturday, 8th December 1668, and from which they depart for Granada on Friday 14th December. The source of this travel is the unpublished diary of the medical doctor Giovan Battista Gorrina, who is included in the personal retinue of the Toscan heir and who writes a chronicle of the journey where his impressions are gathered, as well as the places they called on and the most interesting aspects of their stay in the city.
