Poesía satírica inglesa de la Restauración: A satyr against mankind de John Wilmot (1667-1668) a la luz del pensamiento de Montaigne

Abstract

Trabajo que versa sobre uno de los poetas más brillantes de la época inglesa de la Restauración, John Wilmot, que se basa en parte de la reflexión Ilevada a cabo por el creador del género ensayístico, Michel de Montaigne, así como también en el pensamiento de otros escritores franceses del siglo siguiente: La Rochefoucauld y Boileau. La influencia se plasma en uno de los poemas más conocidos de Rochester: A Satyr against Mankind, del que se ofrece la traducción versificada.

This paper focuses on John Wilmot, one of the most outstanding poets of the English Restauration period. He is seen from the viewpoint held by Montaigne and other relevant French thinkers of the following century: La Rochefoucauld and Boileau. This influence is exemplified with one of the best known poems by Rochester: A Satyr against Mankind, a verse version of which is offered here.
