“Contar la vida que los tristes cautivos pasan”. Introducción a la literatura de cautiverio

Abstract

El cautiverio de cristianos en Berbería es uno de los motivos más recurrentes en la literatura áurea y como tal se ha estudiado desde mediados del siglo XX. Sobre lo apuntado por los principales historiadores de la literatura proponemos un acercamiento a las obras de cautivo no ya como motivo, anécdota o recurso, sino como serie genérica autónoma y equiparable a todas las que surgieron durante el Siglo de Oro.

The captivity of Christians in Barbary is one of the most recurrent elements in the golden literature, and this is how it has been studied since the second half of the twentieth century. On what the main historians of literature have said, we will propose an approach to captive writing not as a simple motif but as an individual literary genre, comparable to the other ones that emerged during the Golden Age of Spanish literature.
