Transformaciones en la representación fílmica de las personas migrantes: el cine español de migraciones ayer y hoy

Abstract

Cinema and migration have a strong connection, produced both in scientific research and in film criticism. Fictionalized representations of migrants have been the key to the production and substitution of discourses and realities surrounding the phenomenon of immigration. Through the comparison of two fictional films, we intend to produce a transformation in the ways of imagining this phenomenon. On the one hand we have Las cartas de Alou (Montxo Armendáriz, 1990), the first production on the issue, widely studied by academics. On the other hand, Vasil (Avelina Prat, 2022) is a very recent production with no trajectory of study. The comparison between the first film and one of the most recent ones can help us produce the artistic and narrative elements that characterize this cinema within our idiosyncrasy in addition to some kind of evolution in this genre in the last 30 years.

El cine y las migraciones guardan una estrecha relación, observada y producida tanto en la investigación científica como en la crítica cinematográfica. Las representaciones ficcionadas de las personas migrantes son clave para la producción de los discursos y realidades en torno al fenómeno de la inmigración. A través de la comparación de dos películas de ficción pretendemos producir algún tipo de transformación en las maneras de imaginar este fenómeno. Por un lado, Las cartas de Alou (1990), la primera producción en la materia, ampliamente estudiada por los académicos. Por otro lado, Vasil (2022), una producción muy reciente sin trayectoria de estudio. El estudio de la primera película y una de las más recientes puede ayudarnos a producir las características de este cine, así como algún tipo de transformación en los últimos 30 años.
