Abstract

El inventario y tasación de bienes post-mortem de Fernando Álvarez, arquitecto afincado en Jerez de la Frontera durante la primera mitad del siglo XVI, brinda la oportunidad de reconstruir su figura más allá de sus actividades artísticas. Su patrimonio revela una privilegiada situación económica alcanzada tras cuatro décadas de presencia en la ciudad jerezana. La presencia de libros entre sus bienes, de los hay que destacar las Medidas del romano de Diego de Sagredo, descubre una nueva dimensión de Álvarez como artista intelectual y ofrece nuevas claves para comprender su obra.

The inventory and appraisal of post-mortem assets of Fernando Álvarez, a architect based in Jerez de la Frontera during the first half of the 16th century, provides the opportunity to reconstruct the figure of this artist beyond his artistic activities. His possessions show a privileged economic situation achieved after four decades of presence in the city of Jerez. With the verification of the possession of books, among which is Medidas del romano by Diego de Sagredo, a new dimension of Álvarez as an intellectual artist is discovered and offers new keys to understand his work.
