Plutarch begins the description of his mythological geography by mentioning the Homeric Ogygia. As the narration proceeds, its image is enriched and developed, raising the question whether we should interpret it as the place of ultimate happiness or not. A journey through different sources’ descriptions of other
marvelous isles (Atlantis, Thule, the Isles of the Blessed) and through Plutarch’s depiction of the island will help us define his concept of Ogygia and the image he wanted to transmit to the reader.
