El origen del segmento nasal implosivo en biombo

Abstract

Tres importantes obras lexicográficas del español actual (el DUE el DClave y el DRAE 2014) indican en sus descriptores etimológicos que la voz “biombo” pasó al español a través de la lengua portuguesa. Sin embargo, como trataremos de demostrar en este artículo, existen pruebas cronológicas y fonológicas de peso para pensar que la aparición de la nasal implosiva no se gestó dentro de la lengua portuguesa y que, por tanto, esta no actuó como intermediaria entre el japones y la lengua española.

Three important dictionaries of contemporary Spanish (DUE, DClave and DRAE20\A) describe in their etymological information how the word “biombo” came into Spanish through the Portuguese language. However, as we try to demonstrate in this article, there is chronological and phonological evidence to suggest that the implosive nasal did not make its appearance through the Portuguese language, but through the Japanese. That is the reason why Portuguese may not have acted as the intermediary language between Japanese and Spanish in this case.
