Madīnat Qurṭuba, Urban Development, and Islamization: The Evidence of Minor Mosques

Abstract

This contribution relates to a larger study and highlights several minor, or secondary, mosques in Madīnat Qurṭuba which have been poorly studied, other than the Great Mosque of Córdoba. By pay- ing particular attention to their location, the author underlines the significance of these smaller mosques for the general layout of the medieval Muslim city of Córdoba, its urban development, and its islamiza- tion. The arguments are based on archaeological evidence and on information from written sources.
