Translation strategies and subtitling of documentaries: the case of Medieval Lives

Abstract

This study aims to propose a working model based on a review of research and methodology in the field of audiovisual translation (AVT). More specifically, the study proposes subtitling as an appropriate AVT modality for translating a particular audiovisual genre: documentaries. For this purpose, an episode from the documentary series entitled Medieval Lives was previously selected as a case study and subsequently subtitled and translated from English into Spanish.
