Un conflicto poco conocido: La guerra hispano-rusa (1799-1801)

Abstract

Las primeras manifestaciones de los problemas en las relaciones entre España y Rusia se remontan al siglo XVII. De hecho, durante el reinado de Carlos II, los virreyes del Perú y Nueva España tenían noticias de que aquellos mares eran frecuentados por los rusos y que se habían producido usurpaciones de territorios perjudiciales al rey de España y a la tranquilidad general. Las tensiones hispano-rusas se fueron acrecentando en los años posteriores hasta la declaración de guerra en 1799. Conflicto bélico que, curiosamente, no dejó ninguna víctima. Para encuadrarlo correctamente hay que tener presente las llamadas guerras revolucionarias francesas y la situación que afectó a la Orden de Malta.

The first manifestations of problems in relations between Spain and Russia date back to the 17th century. In fact, during the reign of Charles II, the viceroys of Peru and New Spain had news that those seas were frequented by the Russians and that there had been usur-pations of territories detrimental to the king of Spain and general tranquility. Spanish-Russian tensions increased in the following years until the declaration of war in 1799. A war that, curiously, left no victims. To frame it correctly, we must keep in mind the so-called French revolutionary wars and the situation that affected the Order of Malta.
