Collaboration in the scientific production of articles on e-learning in Spain

Abstract

Objective: The objective of this study is to determine the rate of collaboration among Spanish researchers in the field of e-learning and to know the type of collaboration that takes place. Theoretical Framework: In this topic we present the background of what e-learning means and indicate previous bibliometric works on this subject in order to have a vision of the international panorama with respect to the publication patterns on this subject. Method: The methodology adopted for this research includes bibliometric techniques focused on content analysis. The information was taken from the SCOPUS database and the variables chosen were the name and number of authors, institutional affiliation and the countries to which they belong. Results and Discussion: The results obtained revealed that there is a pattern of collaboration mainly of a local nature and that international collaboration is beginning to emerge, especially with the USA and the United Kingdom. It was found that the Spanish university with the highest productivity in this field is the Universidad Oberta de Catalunya. Implications of the research: This study has made it possible to identify the most prolific Spanish authors as well as the universities with the highest productivity. It should be noted that there is good collaboration with some Latin American countries. Originality/value: This study contributes to know and highlight the role of Spain in the international dissemination of e-learning research.

Objetivo: El objetivo de este estudio es determinar el índice de colaboración entre los investigadores españoles en el campo de e-learning y conocer el tipo de colaboración que se realiza. Marco Teórico: Se lleva a cabo una conceptualización de lo que se entiende por e-learning y se presentan los antecedentes en cuanto a trabajos bibliométricos previos sobre esta temática para ofrecer una visión del panorama internacional al respecto a los patrones de publicación sobre la misma. Método: La metodología adoptada para esta investigación comprende técnicas bibliométricas centradas en el análisis de contenido. Para ello se tomó la información de la base de datos SCOPUS y se eligieron variables el nombre y número de autores, la filiación institucional y los países a los que pertenecen. Resultados y Discusión: Los resultados obtenidos revelaron que existe un patrón de colaboración mayoritariamente de carácter local y empieza a emerger una colaboración internacional especialmente con USA y el Reino Unido. Se hallo que la universidad española con mayor productividad en este campo es la Universidad Oberta de Catalunya. Implicaciones de la investigación: Este estudio ha permitido identificar a los autores españoles más prolíficos, así como a las universidades con mayor productividad. Se puede destacar que existe una buena colaboración con algunos países latinoamericanos. Originalidad/Valor: Este estudio contribuye a conocer y destacar el papel de España en la difusión internacional de la investigación en e-learning.
