La calabera adámica como símbolo, expresión y representación cultural en Orense - Galicia

Abstract

La presente investigación heurística se enfoca en la calavera adámica presente en el arte funerario católico de Galicia, España, entre los siglos IX y XII. Se aborda la profunda carga simbólica de esta representación, que se erige como un punto crucial de convergencia cultural. El análisis, mediado por la teología y la antropología cultural, revela la coexistencia de dos imaginarios: el místico-religioso (vinculado al pecado original y la redención en Cristo) y el mágico-religioso (producto de la inculturación con tradiciones animistas nórdicas de continuidad vital). Esencialmente, la calavera se interpreta como un apofático que no solo advierte sobre la transitoriedad, sino que confronta al creyente con el misterio inefable de la muerte y la esperanza escatológica. Estudiar el patrimonio material y espiritual, refiere directamente al ODS 11.4 por la necesaria conservación.

This heuristic investigation focuses on the Adamic skull present in Catholic funerary art from Galicia, Spain, between the 9th and 12th centuries. The profound symbolic charge of this representation is addressed, which stands as a crucial point of cultural convergence. The analysis, mediated by theology and cultural anthropology, reveals the coexistence of two imaginaries: the mystical-religious (linked to original sin and redemption in Christ) and the magical-religious (a product of inculturation with Nordic animist traditions of vital continuity). Essentially, the skull is interpreted as an apophatic that not only warns of expiration but also confronts the believer with the ineffable mystery of death and eschatological hope. Studying material and spiritual heritage directly refers to SDG 11.4 for its necessary conservation.
