Platería del siglo XVIII en Jaén: obras inéditas de los plateros Luis Vicente de Guzmán y Zafra y Antonio López y Rojas

Abstract

Este estudio reúne algunas piezas inéditas pertenecientes a la labor de dos maestros de la platería dieciochesca de la provincia de Jaén, Luis Vicente de Guzmán y Zafra y Antonio López y Rojas. Ambos crearon un ingente número de obras argénteas que surtieron los ajuares de parroquias y conventos del territorio giennense, y otras que conformaron interesantes hitos de los tesoros de múltiples templos fuera de nuestra provincia. El estilo de dichas piezas fluctúa entre el barroquismo rococó y un neoclasicismo que tuvo gran aceptación entre las élites religiosas, que defendieron el gusto clásico propugnado por la Academia, y los plateros del Jaén de la época. Asimismo, se incluyen otras piezas relacionadas con las nuevas atribuciones, que tienen que ver con la labor de ambos artífices, con motivos y caracteres que se convirtieron en comunes en sus obras.

This paper brings together previously unpublished pieces from the work of two masters of eighteenth-century silversmithing from the province of Jaén, Luis Vicente de Guzmán y Zafra and Antonio López y Rojas. Both created a vast number of silver works that furnished the furnishings of parishes and convents throughout Jaén, and others that formed interesting landmarks in the treasures of numerous churches outside our province. The style of these pieces fluctuates between Rococo Baroque and a Neoclassicism that was widely accepted among the religious elite, who defended the classical taste advocated by the Academy, and the silversmiths of Jaén at the time. Also included are other pieces related to new attributions, which have to do with the work of both artisans, with motifs and characters that became common in their works.
