His Ordo Decrevit: honores fúnbres en las ciudades de la Bética

Abstract

From the information provided by the epigraphic sources, we present the different types of funeral honours decreed by the municipal senates of the cities of the Beatica. The analisys of the inscription leads us to raising possible solutions that allow to explain the absence of the term funus publicum in the hispanic epigraphy, or the presence of laudatio between the honours granted by the municipalities and colonies of Hispania and Mauritania. Also, we approach other subjects of interest, like the place of location of the decreed statues; the burial places used by those who received locus sepulturae; the social groups to which the honoured ones belonged; and the financing of these honours.

Partiendo de la información proporcionada por las fuentes epigráficas, presentamos los diferentes tipos de honores fúnebres que fueron decretados por los senados de las ciudades de la Bética. El análisis de las inscripciones nos lleva a plantear posibles soluciones que permitan explicar la ausencia del término funus publicum en la epigrafía hispana, o la presencia de la laudatio entre los honores otorgados por los municipios y colonias de Hispania y Mauritania. Igualmente, abordamos otros temas de interés, como el lugar de emplazamiento de las estatuas decretadas; los espacios de enterramiento que fueron utilizados por quienes recibieron el locus sepulturae; los grupos sociales a los que pertenecieron los honrados; y la financiación de estos honores.
