Este artículo examina la obra de Matthew Arnold para sopesar la posibilidad de que la cultura —lo mejor que se ha pensado y dicho en el mundo— sea ineficaz. La relación de la cultura con la religión y la poesía en su época, y el trasfondo de la filosofía enfrentada a obstáculos artificiales, guían nuestras consideraciones.
This paper deals with the work of Matthew Arnold with the prospect that culture —the best which has been thought and said in the world— could be ineffectual. The connection between contemporary culture and religion and poetry, and the background of the artificial obstacles to philosophy, guide our considerations.
