Para su elaboración hemos recurrido a fuentes impresas de la época (leyes, tratados teóricos y obras literarias), complementadas con ediciones de fuentes de archivo y algunas aportaciones científicas. El empleo de estos datos permite reconstruir como las armerías fueron utilizadas de manera fraudulenta como instrumento de ascenso social durante toda la Edad Moderna en todos estos territorios. Frente a esta situación, los Estados intervienen para determinar el tipo de armerías que corresponde a los nobles y evitar que las usen los plebeyos para infiltrarse en la nobleza. Sin embargo, los resultados fueron en general pobres. This article tries to offer a general approach to the phenomenon of the usurpation of armories during the Early Modern Age, comparing the existing situations in France, the Southern Netherlands, Castile, Spanish Navarre and England. Since research on this subject is still scarce, and given the geographical scope covered in this work, we have resorted mainly to printed sources of the time (laws, theoretical treatises and literary works), supplemented with editions of file sources and some contributions of scientific research. The use of these data allows us to reconstruct how the armories were fraudulently used as an instrument of social ascent throughout the Modern Age in these territories. Faced with this situation, the States intervene to determine the type of arms that correspond to the nobles and prevent them from being used by the commoners to infiltrate the nobility.
