Sin embargo, su limitada proyección escultórica en el ámbito andaluz, y sus escasas relaciones artísticas con otros maestros y artífices nacionales, han ensombrecido su figura y relegado su legado artístico. En el presente trabajo analizaremos una de sus obras más interesantes y conocidas en el ámbito de la religiosidad popular cordobesa, la imagen de Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno de la localidad de Nueva Carteya, fechado en 1940 y cuyos procesos de restauración posteriores han imprimido a la imagen unas connotaciones muy particulares. The sculpture production of Juan Cristóbal González Quesada (1896-1961) has generated the interest of researchers who have highlighted his special skill in portraiture, as well as his work for commemorative sculpture. The little attention that has been paid to his imagery, due to the little repercussion it has within his sculptural production, makes it a virgin subject in the field of research. In the specific case of the Nazarene (1940) from Nueva Carteya, the interventions carried out on the image make it a unique case. A common practice in religious sculpture, which completely changes the sculptural imprint of the images.
