La copia conocida como Vat. copt. 9 (s. The copy known as Vat. Copt. 9 (13th c.) is a highly appreciated sample of manuscript because of the miniatures which are included of the same style as `Middle Byzantine' technique, at places enriched by Iranian-lslamic motifs, together with the valuable Coptic and Arabic versions also found there. In Chis paper our purpose is to focas en the frontispice of Mark's Gospel and to argue that the representation of the Evangelist taking the book from the hands of the Archangel Saint Michael shows clear connections with the iluministic techniques used by Carolingian masters.
