rias francesas y la situación que afectó a la Orden de Malta The first manifestations of problems in relations between Spain and Russia date back to the 17th century. In fact, during the reign of Charles II, the viceroys of Peru and New Spain had news that those seas were frequented by the Russians and that there had been usur-pations of territories detrimental to the king of Spain and general tranquility. Spanish-Russian tensions increased in the following years until the declaration of war in 1799. A war that, curiously, left no victims. To frame it correctly, we must keep in mind the so-called French revolutionary wars and the situation that affected the Order of Malta.
