This paper analyzes the degree of text specialization
in medical discourse. To this end, based on the
discursive underpinnings of the Communicative Theory
of Terminology and the socio-cognitive theory of
perception, an Excel database with data on six variables,
both linguistic and extra-linguistic (type of text, lexical
variety, rewording, terminological density, role of the
interlocutors, and text category), was analyzed using a
correlational method with a quantitative-qualitative approach,
complemented with machine learning. Among
the conclusions, it is worth highlighting the role played
by the recipient as a conditioning factor of the degree of
text specialization, as well as the terminological density
as the main discriminating factor of the degree of text
specialization.
