Pedro Garfias: Una poesía de contrastes con el drama del exilio de fondo

Abstract

El itinerario vital y literario de Pedro Garfias deambuló por diferentes escenarios al albur de una trayectoria problemática y heterodoxa. Abanderado del ultraísmo, silenciamiento literario, testigo material y lírico de la guerra y creador en el exilio, su paisanaje personal y creativo ofrece un complejo abanico de contrastes fruto de unas circunstancias histórico-sociales y existenciales que forjaron una poética singular donde dialécticas y controversias se entretejen para confeccionar una propuesta literaria sin parangón cuyas formulaciones y praxis centran el objeto de estudio de la presente investigación. Con estas premisas, este trabajo aborda cómo fue evolucionando su conciencia y su práctica estética y cómo fueron manando dualidades y contiendas entre sus sucesivos ciclos creativos ejemplificadas en un primer momento en las distancias tendidas entre una inicial época marcada por el esteticismo y la audacia innovadora propios de las corrientes de vanguardia y su poesía épica y exhortativa de guerra. Más tarde, estos vitalistas referentes bélicos fueron sustituyéndose por la aflicción y la tragedia de la derrota republicana para, finalmente, acentuarse nuevas contradicciones al suscitarse paradojas entre los dramas existenciales del exiliado y las expectativas abiertas en las nuevas realidades brindadas por los países de acogida.

Pedro Garfias’s life and literary journey wandered through different settings to the edge of a problematic and heterodox career. As a standardbearer of ultraism, literary silencing, and as an actual lyrical witness to the war and creator in exile, his personal and creative peasantry offers a complex range of contrasts resulting from historical-social and existential circumstances that forged a unique poetics where dialectics and controversies are interwoven to make a literary proposal without paragon, whose formulations and praxis will be the object of study of this investigation. Under these premises, this work deals with the evolution of her aesthetic awareness and practice, and the way dualities and struggles well up among her successive creative cycles, exemplified at first by the distances between an initial period characterised by the innovative aestheticism and boldness typical of avant-garde currents and her epic and exhortative war poetry. Later, these reference war vitalists were replaced by the sorrow and tragedy of the republican defeat to finally highlight new contradictions because of the paradoxes presented between the existential drama of the exile and the open expectations in the new realities offered by the host country.
