La construcción póstuma de la figura de Feijoo: los poemas laudatorios de sus exequias fúnebres (edición del corpus)

Abstract

La figura de Feijoo como vir illustris de la República de las Letras y del canon nacional español se transparenta la poesía laudatoria que sobre él empezó a difundirse a mediados del siglo XVIII, entre la que sobresalen sin duda los 23 poemas incluidos en tres de las honras fúnebres publicadas en su honor en 1765 (obra de Francos Arango, Cernadas y Castro y un autor anónimo). En estas páginas se analiza la construcción autorial que estos poemas ofrecen de Feijoo, toda vez que se dan a conocer textos inéditos que revelan cómo la orden demanda que su lápida y su epitafio respondan a esa imagen monumental que ya se ha consolidado. Se analiza también cómo las poesías escritas por Diego Cernadas y Castro para el túmulo funerario de Feijoo fueron manipuladas en Oviedo para controlar la imagen que se ofrece del monje. Por último, se ofrece una edición crítica del corpus.

The figure of Feijoo as vir illustris of the Republic of the letters and of the Spanish national canon owes much to the laudatory poetry that began to be published in the mid-18th century. Among this kind of texts, the 23 poems included in three of the funeral speeches appeared in his honor in 1765 reach special relevance. This paper analyzes the authorial construction that these poems offer about Feijoo. We edit unpublished texts that reveal how the public demands that Feijoo’s gravestone and epitaph should respond to that monumental image that has already be consolidated by the time. It is also analyzed how the poems written by Diego Cernadas de Castro for the funeral tomb of Feijoo were manipulated in Oviedo, in order to highlight certain ingredients of his figure and discard others. Finally, a critical edition of the corpus is offered.
