Educar es creer en la persona. Reflexiones en torno al derecho a la educación.

Abstract

Al comienzo del siglo pasado, en su obra “The Outline of History” Wells afirmaba que la historia de la humanidad se está volviendo, cada vez más, en una carrera entre la educación y la catástrofe. Esta lectura casi apocalíptica de la realidad humana pone en evidencia algo que ha resultado suficientemente claro desde los albores de la cultura occidental: que pocos factores, como el educativo, influyen de manera decisiva en el funcionamiento de nuestros modelos democráticos. Y, sin embargo, la educación no es solo un mecanismo que garantiza la salud de nuestros sistemas de convivencia. Es a la vez un instrumento decisivo para la realización del principio de dignidad humana. Este trabajo reflexiona sobre esta naturaleza doble de la educación sintetizando algunas conclusiones expuestas por el autor en la ponencia “Reflexiones sobre el derecho a la educación desde una perspectiva teleológica y jurídica” presentada en el VI Congreso internacional “Derecho a la educación: innovación docente y mejora educativa”, organizado por la Universidad de Córdoba y la Universidad de Valencia los días 4 y 5 de marzo de 2021.

At the beginning of the last century, in his work “The Outline of History” Wells stated that human history is increasingly becoming a race between education and catastrophe. This almost apocalyptic reading of human reality highlights something that has been sufficiently clear since the dawn of Western culture: that few factors, such as education, have a decisive influence on the functioning of our democratic models. And yet, education is not only a mechanism that guarantees the health of our systems of coexistence. It is also a decisive instrument for the realization of the principle of human dignity. This paper reflects on this dual nature of education by synthesizing some conclusions presented by the author in the paper “Reflections on the right to education from a teleological and legal perspective” presented at the VI International Congress “Right to education: teaching innovation and educational improvement”, organized by the University of Cordoba and the University of Valencia on March 4th and 5th, 2021.
