La repristinación artística de la antigua iglesia conventual de los capuchinos de Málaga en el siglo XVIII

Abstract

El presente trabajo aborda el estudio de las reformas artísticas acometidas durante el siglo XVIII en el templo del antiguo y popular convento de los capuchinos de Málaga. En estas desempeñó un papel capital como mentor de temas, leyendas e iconografías elcélebre predicador de la orden fray Diego José de Cádiz, quien demostró siempre una enorme sensibilidad hacia este tipo de iniciativas. Recientes restauraciones del interior de la iglesia permiten analizar parte de su primitiva decoración epidérmica, en especial las pinturas murales y las de caballete adscritas a algunos de los retablos. Asimismo, se corrigen errores interpretativos y de identificación de los personajes representados, que venían arrastrándose desde tiempo atrás.

The present work presents the study of the artistic reforms makes during the 18thcentury in the temple of the ancient and popular Capuchin convent of Málaga. In these reforms the famous preacher of the order fray Diego José de Cádiz performed a role capital as a mentor of themes, legends and iconographies, who always showed an enormous sensitivity towards this type of initiatives. Recent restorations of the interior of the church allow us to analyze part of its primitive epidermal decoration, especially wall paintings and easel paintings ascribed to some of the altarpieces. In addition, it will also correct misinterpretation and misidentification of characters represented, which had been dragging themselves for a long time
