Historia textual de los Trabajos del vicio de Simón de Castelblanco en el contexto del mercado madrileño del Barroco

Abstract

El artículo presenta la historia textual de la novela Trabajos del vicio (1680), la única obra profana escrita por Simón de Castelblanco (OSA). Desde la perspectiva que otorga la sociología literaria en conexión con la bibliografía material, se aborda la pertinencia de Trabajos del vicio dentro de la línea editorial del taller de Lorenzo García y a la luz del mercado del libro madrileño de finales del Barroco. Asimismo, se analiza el remozado al que se sometió la novela en 1684, con el cambio de título a Traiciones de la hermosura; se estudian las intenciones, tanto del autor como del editor, en torno a la búsqueda de un dedicatario adecuado para la obra y se plantean hipótesis sobre las causas de su fracaso comercial.

This article presents the textual history of the novel Trabajos del vicio (1680), the only secular book written by Simón de Castelblanco (OSA). From the perspective of literary sociology in connection with material bibliography, we will address the relevance of Trabajos del vicio in the editorial line of Lorenzo García’s atelier and in the light of the Madrid publishing market of the late of Baroque. We also analyze the editorial rejuvenation to which the novel was subjected in 1684 with a change of title to Traiciones de la hermosura; we study the intentions, both of the author and the publisher, regarding the search for a suitable dedicatee for the novel, and we hypothesises the causes of the commercial failure.
