“My capacities and talents can only be expressed by my pen”: aspectos lingüísticos y discurso literario en la historia de Isabella y Villenoys

Abstract

This paper frames Aphra Behn’s mastery through The History of the Nun in order to single out the outstanding discursive and linguistic strategies from the beginning until Villenoys’s departure. This study highlights the interrelationship between the morphosyntactic tools and the semantic techniques to illustrate the author’s intention within the context of her work. This close reading allows us to scrutinize a few samples of lexical and semantic groupings as well as some homophonic puns found along the story without leaving aside the valuable writer’s purpose. It also explores the narrative geographies, the chronological coordinates and the historical landmarks that generate a very realistic scenario which paves the way towards the emergence of the English novel.

El presente artículo abarca la maestría de Apha Behn en The History of the Nun con la finalidad de señalar las estrategias lingüísticas y discursivas más sobresalientes desde que la obra comienza hasta la partida de Villenoys.Este ahondamiento subraya la relación entre las herramientas morfosintácticas y las técnicas semánticas para ilustrar la intencionalidad de la autora en el seno del contexto de su obra. Esta lectura minuciosa nos permite indagar en un abanico de conjuntos léxicos y semánticos así como en algunas combinaciones fonéticas singulares en la obra sin desdeñar los objetivos de su autora. También explora las geografías narrativas, las coordenadas cronológicas y los hitos históricos que generan un escenario muy realista el cual allana el camino hacia la emergencia de la novela
