Dalí y la Hypnerotomachi Poliphili

Abstract

La temática de este ensayo gira en torno a la figura de Salvador Dalí en su contacto con la novela renacentista Hypnerotomachia Poliphili. Los lazos que se establecen entre pintor y libro revelan puntos de una simbiosis biográfica, pero también artística y temática, que se traduce en una peculiar iconografía, posible de apreciarse en los lienzos que el artista acomete en los años 40. De manos de este particular vínculo, clasicismo y surrealismo se unen en un periodo de efervescencia vital del genio catalán. En esa época, los óleos dalinianos dialogan visualmente con los mundos del cine, el diseño y la publicidad en base a la reiteración de una serie de elementos formales que beben directamente de las ilustraciones de la Hypnerotomachia Poliphili, y que se funden con el particular universo simbólico del personalísimo Dalí.

The theme of this essay revolves around the figure of Salvador Dalí in his contact with the Renaissance novel Hypnerotomachia Poliphili. The ties that can be established between the painter and the book reveal a biographic, but also artistic and thematic symbiosis, which is possible to appreciate in the canvas that the artist undertakes in the forties. Thanks to this particular link, Classicism and Surrealism join together during a dynamic period in the life of the Catalan genius. In these years, Dalinian paintings take part in visual conversations with the worlds of cinema, design and advertising, using a reiterative bunch of formal elements that derive directly from the pictures of the Hypnerotomachia Poliphili, and that mix with the peculiar symbolic universe of the absolutely personal Dalí.
