¿En busca de la muralla perdida? A propósito de las características arquitectónicas y el trazado de la muralla taifa de Madınat Išbiliya

Abstract

El presente artículo tiene como objetivos la reconstrucción de las características arquitectónicas y el trazado del recinto amurallado erigido en el siglo V/XI, ya fuera durante la fitna o durante la dinastía de los Banu‘Abbad. Aunque desconocemos el trazado de dicho recinto y que nunca se ha documentado con certeza resto alguno del mismo, en base al análisis del registro arqueológico sevillano sostenemos un trazado similar al de la Išbıliya paleoandalusí. Por otra parte, en base a la tipología de algunas fortificaciones taifas conservadas y de los hallazgos efectuados en la Puerta de Marchena del Alcázar y en la calle Orfila defendemos que la muralla del siglo V/XI fue erigida con tapias de hormigón y cal.

This article is intended to rebuild the architectural features and the layout of the wall erected in the 11th century either during the fitna or during the Banu ‘Abbad dynasty. Even though the layout of the wall is unknown and no remains have been documented, based on the research on the Seville Archeological record it can be held that it was quite similar to that of Paleo-Andalusi Išbıliya. On the other hand, and according to the typology of some preserved fortifications and discoveries at the Puerta de Marchena of Alcázar and Orfila Street, it seems that de 11th century wall was made of rammed earth (tapial).
