La reconstrucción del patrimonio judeoconverso. La familia, la casa solariega y la capilla catedralicia de los Muñoz de Velasco en Córdoba

Abstract

Durante la Edad Moderna muchas familias conversas consiguieron insertarse en las filas de la nobleza, a pesar de su origen judío, en muchas ciudades de nuestra geografía. La familia cordobesa Muñoz de Velasco, hasta ahora en gran modo desconocida, ejemplifica a la perfección el proceso de ocultación de su sangre hebrea y el ascenso económico y social desde el siglo XVI hasta finales del Antiguo Régimen. Además, durante diferentes generaciones dejaron interesantes rastros patrimoniales que nos permiten comprobar su creciente estatus. Con esta aportación pretendemos pues demostrar la necesidad de un rastreo sistemático y global de la documentación y el cruce de las fuentes para conseguir sacar a la luz toda la ascendencia judía de numerosas familias de la aristocracia cordobesa, así como aportar conocimiento sobre el rico e interesante patrimonio que han dejado dentro de una ciudad que es Patrimonio de la Humanidad y cuyo valor cultural resulta clave para entender su pasado.

During the Modern Age many Jewish-Convert families managed to insert themselves in the ranks of the nobility, despite their jew origin, in many cities of our geography. The Muñoz de Velasco family from Córdoba, until now largely unknown, perfectly exemplifies the process of concealment of its hebrew blodd and the economic and social rise from the 16th century to the end of the Old Regime. Also, this family left interesting heritage traces for different generations. that allow us to verify their growing status. With this contribution we intend to demonstrate the need for a systematic and global tracking of documentation and the crossing of sources to bring to light all the Jewish descent of many families of the aristocracy of Cordoba, as well as provide knowledge about the rich and interesting heritage that they have left inside a city that is a World Heritage Site and whose cultural value is key to understanding their past.
