El hombre: una singularidad en el universo físico ockhamista

Abstract

Dado que Guillermo de Ockham nunca emprendió un análisis sistemático y acabado de la cuestión antropológica, la autora realiza una reconstrucción del terna a partir de consideraciones fragmentadas en sus distintas obras físicas y teológicas. El enfoque metodológico ockhamista es el mismo con el que ha estudiado el mundo natural: conocimiento fundado en la experiencia, lógica terminista con base en el individuo y recurso permanente al principio de economía. Sin embargo Ockham destaca al hombre respecto del universo determinado de la materia. Es un ente privilegiado: por su carácter de ser material participa de las notas y perfecciones propias de sus congéneres sublunares; y por su libertad, trasciende infinitamente el universo determinado de la física. Partiendo de esta base la autora considera, en primer lugar, las definiciones física y metafísica que el filósofo establece; e indica las consecuencias que de ellas se derivan y las propias limitaciones que Ockham les asigna. Analiza, luego, el constitutivo determinante de ambas definiciones: el alma espiritual; 10 hace examinando los rasgos fundamentales con los que Ockham la caracteriza: su incorruptibilidad y simplicidad. La justificación de estas notas constituye un punto central de la antropología ockhamista donde la sola razón se muestra insuficiente para alcanzar la verdad; cabe a la fe completar el alcance de este conocimiento

Since William of Ockham has never made a systematic and thorough analysis of the anthropological issue, the author reconstructs the theme on the basis of considerations taken from his several physical and theological works. The Ockhamist methodological approach is the same used to study the natural world: experience-based knowledge, individual-based terminist logic and the principle of economy (Ockham 's razor). However, Ockham stresses the individual against the deterministic universe of matter. It is a privileged entity: with its nature of material being, it takes part of the features and perfections of the natural world — both inanimate and animate beings; and with its freedom, it infinitely transcends the deterministic universe of physics. Taking the above as a starting point, the author considers, firstly, the physical and metaphysical definitions given by the philosopher; and she shows the consequences resulting from them and the specific limitations established by Ockham. Then, she analyzes the main constituent of both definitions: the spiritual soul; she does so by examining the main features used by Ocltham to describe it: its incorruptibility and simplicity. The justification for these features is a central point in the Ockhamist anthropology where the mere reason is insufficient to reach the truth; it is the faith the one that should complete the scope of this knowledge
