Buscando el favor del rey: publicidad y consecuencias de la captura de Rafael del Riego para la Intendencia de Nuevas Poblaciones

Abstract

La captura de Rafael del Riego supuso el fin del movimiento revolucionario asentado en la monarquía hispánica durante el Trienio Liberal (1820-1823). En las Nuevas Poblaciones, debido a su especial sistema foral, la implementación de la Constitución de 1812 se vio dificultada, propiciando un sentimiento favorable a la vuelta del sistema absolutista en la mayoría de sus vecinos que catalizaría en una participación activa en el prendimiento de Riego y sus oficiales. Por lo tanto, el esclarecimiento de las circunstancias de su detención nos ayudará a entender como las personas e instituciones que se vieron involucradas directamente en él, cómo la Intendencia de Nuevas Poblaciones y los colonos de Arquillos, desde los primeros instantes utilizaron la propaganda para conseguir prebendas dentro de la España absolutista. Fundamentalmente se valieron del correo directo con la Regencia Absolutista o de publicaciones en la prensa diaria que publicitaron los hechos desde el primer instante que sucedieron junto con la visita de Fernando VII a La Carolina.

The capture of Rafael del Riego marked the end of the revolutionary movement established in the Hispanic monarchy during the Liberal Triennium (1820-1823). In the New Settlements, due to its special foral system, the implementation of the 1812 Constitution was hindered, propitiating a favorable feeling for the return of the absolutist system in the majority of its neighbors that would catalyze an active participation in the arrest of Riego and their officers. Therefore, clarifying the circumstances of his arrest will help us understand how the people and institutions that were directly involved in it, how the Intendancy of New Populations and the settlers of Arquillos, from the first moments used propaganda to get privileges within absolutist Spain. Basically, they used direct mail with the Absolutist Regency or publications in the daily press that publicized the events from the first moment that they happened together with the visit of Fernando VII to La Carolina.
