El Triunfo del Nombre de Jesús. El desaparecido programa iconográfico de la iglesia de la Compañía de Tunja

Abstract

Este artículo reconstruye el desaparecido programa iconográfico de la iglesia de la Compañía de Jesús de Tunja (Colombia), elaborado en los siglos XVII y XVIII. Los altares, cuadros, retablos y portada de la iglesia de la Compañía, que servía a su colegio-noviciado, están dedicados al Triunfo del Nombre de Jesús. El programa, relacionado con los Ejercicios Espirituales, se usó con fines pedagógicos y evangelizadores. Tras la expulsión de los jesuitas, la mayoría de los altares, cuadros y esculturas se dispersaron o desaparecieron. A través de las fuentes jesuitas y hospitalarias, es posible plantear la organización interior de la iglesia.

This paper reconstructs the forgotten iconographic message of the church of the Society of Jesus from Tunja (Colombia) built between 17th and 18th centuries. The altars, paintings, altarpieces, and the front of the church of the Company, which served to the school-novitiate are dedicated to the Triumph of the Name of Jesus. The message, related to the Spiritual Exercises, was used with pedagogical and evangelizers purposes. After the expulsion of the Jesuits, most of the altars, paintings and sculptures were dispersed or disappeared. Through the Jesuit and Hospitallers of St. John sources, it is possible to consider the internal organization of the church.
