La prostitución sagrada en el Oriente Antiguo y su expansión mediterránea: el caso de Gadir y las puellae gaditanae.

Abstract

En el presente trabajo se analizan los principales testimonios que se conocen sobre la práctica de la prostitución sagrada en el Oriente Antiguo y en otras zonas del Mediterráneo. Así, se propone la posible vinculación de la prostitución sagrada en el Oriente Antiguo con las puellae gaditanae, pudiendo ser éstas la evolución de esta institución asociada al culto de la diosa Astarté. A través de las fuentes que se han conservado (literarias, jurídicas, administrativas, arqueológicas y epigráficas) se verá esta posible influencia y evolución que dio como resultado a las bailarinas gaditanas. Por tanto, se lleva a cabo un análisis de las fuentes nombradas, llegando hasta los testimonios conservados en la Península hasta centrarnos en aquellos referidos a Gadir. Así, podremos valorar el florecimiento y la pervivencia del residuo, ya romanizado, de esta prostitución sagrada, pues se sabe que el culto portuario de Astarté se extendió por todo el Mediterráneo.

This study analyses the main testimonies known about the practice of sacred prostitution in the Ancient East and in other areas of the Mediterranean. Thus, we propose the possible link between sacred prostitution in the Ancient East and the puellae gaditanae, which could be the evolution of this institution associated with the cult of the goddess Astarte. Through the sources that have been preserved (literary, legal, administrative, archaeological and epigraphic), this possible influence and evolution that resulted in the Cadiz dancers will be seen. Therefore, an analysis of the sources mentioned above is carried out, going as far as the testimonies preserved in the Peninsula until we focus on those referring to Gadir. In this way, we will be able to assess the flourishing and survival of the residue, already romanised, of this sacred prostitution, as it is known that the port cult of Astarte spread throughout the Mediterranean.
