El georgismo novelado de Esteban Beltrán: la razón entre obreros y burgueses

Abstract

Con La razón entre obreros y burgueses su autor pretende difundir las doctrinas georgistas a las que ha llegado después de militar en el republicanismo radical con Manolín, y el socialismo cooperativista de El Socialismo agrario. Segunda parte de Manolín. Cada “Controversia” en que divide la narración se ocupa de un concepto: en la Primera trata de la necesidad de ejercer el derecho a voto; en la Segunda aborda el autor la “Ley de la oferta y la demanda” y en la Tercera la “Ley del impuesto único”. Demostramos en nuestro estudio por qué no consigue escribir una novela plena, quedándose el autor en un ensayo proselitista aparentemente novelado.

With La razón entre obreros y burgueses (The reason between workmen and burgueoises), the author tries to spread the Georgist doctrine that he reached after actively supporting the radical republicanism with Manolín, and the cooperative socialism of El Socialismo agrario. Segunda parte de Manolín (The agricultural Socialism. Second Part of Manolín). Every ‘Controversy’ in which the story is divided, focuses on one concept: the First one deals with the need of exercising the right to vote; in the Second one, the author raises the ‘Law of supply and demand’, and finally, the Third one is about the ‘Law of the Only Tax’. This study demonstrates why the author cannot write an entire novel, while he remains in an essay full of proselitism and appearing like a novel
