El despoje fuentístico resulta necesario cuando no se halla un texto-fuente preciso para otro posterior. En el presente artículo trato de demostrar que un fragmento contenido en el relato de la "Exaltación de la Cruz" (ms. 8 de la Biblioteca Menéndez Pelayo") muy probablemente no represente la traducción de un texto latino anterior, sino más bien la reescritura de un texto latino al que se le han añadido y despojado elementos narrativos. La tarea de establecer una diacronía fuentística ("arqueología de fuentes") resulta de alto interés para poder conocer el origen y el desarrollo que experimentó un texto en cuestión. The source takeout is badly needed when an accurate source text leading to a subsequent one cannot be readily traced. In the present article I attempt to show that a fragment in the narrative "Exaltación de la Cruz" (ms. 8 in Menéndez Pelayo Library) most surely is not rendering at all of a prior Latin text, but rather the rewriting of a Latin text that has been both added and taken out narrative elements. The task of establishing a diachronic source tracing (source archaelogy) proves of high interest in order to know the origins and development of the text concerned
