Il fenomeno dei mosaici funerari in Hispania nei secoli IV-VI

Abstract

Il presente articolo vuole approfondire lo studio sul fenomeno dei mosaici funerari della Penisola Iberica durante i secoli IV-VI. Questi mosaici sono tutti afferenti al mondo cristiano e la loro tipologia sembra avere radici nel Nord Africa. Tralasciando la parte epigrafica, studiata in passato in abbondanza, l’articolo si incentra soprattutto sulle botteghe che misero in posa questi monumenti. In ultimo si cerca di apportare nuove ipotesi circa l’origine di questo fenomeno e del suo abbandono durante il VI secolo.

This paper aims the phenomenon of tomb mosaics in the Iberian Peninsula during IV-VI centuries. All these mosaics covered Christian burials and this kind of monument seems to have its origins in North Africa. Excluding the epigraphic topic, which has already been studied thoroughly, we will focus on the mosaic workshops. Finally, we will make some hypothesis on the origins and decline of this phenomenon during the VI century.
