Inhumaciones "privilegiadas" intra muros durante la Antigüedad Tardía: el caso de Barcino

Abstract

En Barcino y en relación con distintos edificios del Grupo Episcopal, se localizan una serie de inhumaciones privilegiadas. Merece especial atención un area funeraria relacionada con una iglesia en planta de cruz, donde se localizaron veinticuatro inhumaciones en ánforas o caja de tegulae, totalmente cubiertas por un pavimento de opus signinum. También se ha documentado otro espacio funerario situado al noroeste del baptisterio, junto a la muralla, y un corredor funerario en un anexo lateral del aula o sala de recepción del obispo. Al margen de estos espacios de privilegio relacionados con el episcopium, se han localizado enterramientos infantiles en el interior de algunos edificios, como el baptisterio o una sala anexa al aula. Este fenómeno de inhumar intra muros se detecta en Barcelona en el siglo VI d. C.

In Barcino, among the buildings that make up the Episcopal Ensemble, there are a series of privileged inhumations (burial sites). Of particular interest is a funerary area associated with a cruciform-plan church, in which 24 funerary amphorae or tegulae boxes were found completely buried beneath an opus signinum floor. Another funerary area has been documented, located north-east of the baptistery, next to the wall, as well as a funerary corridor in an annex next to the Bishop’s reception hall. Apart from these privileged burial spaces in the episcopium, burial sites containing child remains have been found inside buildings such as the baptistery and an annex to the reception hall. Intramural burial is a phenomenon which is associated with Barcelona of the 6th century.
