Las denominaciones de la Virgen María en la lírica alemana de la Edad Media

Abstract

Es conocido que en la literatura alemana medieval se utilizan numerosos sustantivos para hacer alusión a la Virgen María, tanto para dirigirse directamente a ella, como para hablar de ella y de sus extraordinarias cualidades. Ahora bien, se echa en falta una sistematización de dichos sustantivos que permita responder a preguntas como: ¿de qué origen son dichos sustantivos?, ¿en qué proporción son sustantivos autóctonos o préstamos?, ¿es posible agruparlos en campo semánticos? En caso afirmativo, ¿cuáles se encuentran más representados? ¿Hasta qué punto se puede hablar de universalidad de su uso, basándose en el número de textos en los que se hallan presentes? Interrogantes de este tipo constituyen el objeto del presente estudio.

It is well known that many names are used in German Medieval literature referring to the Holy Virgin Mary not only to address her directly but also to deal with her and with her extraordinary qualities. But in spite of that, attempts of systematizing of these names are missing in order to provide answer to questions such as: Where those names do come from?, how many of them are native German names and how many borrowings?, is it possible to classify them into lexical fields?, and if so, which ones are mostly represented in the selected texts? To what extent can we talk of extended use basing on the amount of texts in which they appear? Questions like these are the aim of the present study.
